Why should I photograph paintings, drawings and collages in different lights?

A major hurdle for online sales as well as a major reason for returns of artworks is what we call the “gallery effect” – an artwork looks different at home than it did on the gallery’s wall or on the internet.

The reason for this is often lighting – galleries are perfect at lighting your artworks, but customers barely install a perfect lighting system to suit the colors of your artwork. This often creates frustration in customers who feel they have bought something different from what they expected.

While this effect cannot be entirely removed, it can be reduced significantly by providing customers with pictures of your artworks in different lighting to show them that the colors might look different in different lighting.
